Ukraine joined the Metric Convention

On August 7, 2018, Ukraine gained full membership in the Metric Convention and became one of the 60 member states. By this time Ukraine has been in the status of associate member for 16 years.
As you know, the Metric Convention is an international agreement aimed at developing and maintaining international standards for units of measurement of the International System of Units (SI), open to all countries having diplomatic relations with France (the custodian of the agreement). The International Bureau of Measures and Weights is involved in the development of international standards and in the verification of national standards of member countries of the Metric Convention with these standards.

Accession to the Metric Convention is stipulated by the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, the Strategy for the development of the technical regulation system up to 2020, and the Law of Ukraine “On Ukraine’s Accession to the Metric Convention”.

Full membership in the Metric Convention will ensure the recognition of the metrological system of Ukraine, which meets European requirements, and will enable an examination of the national standards of Ukraine with the national standards of the 59 member countries of the Metric Convention, which is a prerequisite for international recognition of the results of measurements and tests of Ukrainian products for its moving to the international market. The membership of Ukraine in the Metric Convention will also contribute to the conclusion of an Agreement on the assessment of conformity and suitability of industrial products (ACAA Agreement) with the European Union.
